      Buffalo Independent School District

Buffalo ISD is a small 2A school district with approximately 890 students enrolled in PreK thru 12th grade. The school is located off of IH-45, approximately 110 miles south of Dallas and 130 miles north of Houston.  Funding is obtained through local, state, and grant monies, which are utilized to disperse computers and technological equipment throughout the district. Teachers integrate technology into their curriculum by use of the internet, educational software and word application programs.  BISD does not have a strong tax base therefore extensive technology is not available district wide.  Due to limited funding, resources are limited however the basic needs of our students are met.

Buffalo ISD has three main campuses: Elementary, Upper & Lower Junior High and High School.  A bond election resulted in the construction of a new high school that was completed the summer of 2010. Approximately two years ago, BISD received the T3 Grant. Through the T3 Grant much needed technology equipment was purchased. Each classroom received a Smart board and document camera along with one mobile unit per campus.

Due to the recent budget cuts, BISD is exploring all options available to assure that teachers and students have access to technology applications and equipment.  Because technology is a moving entity, teachers and students must have the opportunity to gain technology-based knowledge and skill.  The current proposal being sought is “Bring Your Own Device.”  BYOD would allow BISD to move forward in the realm of technology while eliminating the expense. BISD technology mission is to provide an updated, safe and secure computing environment to enhance and facilitate the teaching and learning of all students (BISD, 2012).
